Think of the box makers in this deal. They have product on the selves that the retailer will return, or blow-out with huge discounts. They have a small inventory of ZiVA chips too.

THe box makers won't return the chips out of any returned boxes, but it will suck for them to fire sale these white elephants. As for the ZiVA chips, these guys make regular DVD boxes as well, so they can just use the chips for them. Who really takes it in the shorts is the consumer. Unless Divx upgrades all their Divx discs to "Play Whenever" status, they will all be useless in the future. Maybe that's what the $100 is for . . . or is that for the extra money they paid to have this useless added "feature" on their DVD player?
