Since the Tories are attacking the Govt over the pound I think they could be enlisted by GATA to attack the gold sales in a big way.

Treasury minister Patricia Hewitt defended the sale,
saying: "Gold has been a very poor investment over the
last 20 years.

"Other investments have offered capital gains or the
reinvestment of substantial interest payments over that
period.

"We are not saying that gold will continue to be a poor
investment...but none of us know."

I suspect that this a very weak response, as undoubtedly the way BoE announced Gold sales was intended to hummer the POG...so this can't realy fly as an explanation or defence of the action
