Ausdauer, we are in agreement. Unless you HAVE to have 340MB of storage in one slot, it's hard to justify $499.

On the other hand, IBM might charge OEMs <$200 for imbedded drives and they could double the capacity per drive within a year. There are places where such devices would fit nicely. But certainly not in mass-marketed, consumer devices.

IMHO, the biggest threat is something that does not yet exist ... a low-cost micro-CD writer. If you could burn your own 1" CDs for a few bucks apiece, it could be perceived as a better way to feed MP3 players. And the music industry might embrace a MicroCD as it's "standard" MP3 format.

Exchanging cheap CDs with friends in one thing but lending them your 160MB CF card or $499 Microdrive is another matter entirely!
