Applied Materials' Triant Stake

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Applied Materials Inc. invested $2.2 million for a 12.5% equity stake in Triant
Technologies Inc., a Nanaimo, British Columbia, producer of semiconductor health-monitoring and
fault-detection software.

Applied Materials, a chip-equipment maker, also received 2,738,250 common share purchase warrants,
exercisable for a two-year term at 80 cents a share in the first year and $1.20 a share in the second.

Under a separate license agreement, Applied Materials will become the exclusive reseller of Triant's software.
