DJ Qwest, Cisco Sys To Develop Commun Platform

DENVER (Dow Jones)--Qwest Communications International Inc. (QWST) and Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO) signed a multi-year agreement to develop a communications platform.

In a press release Thursday, the companies said the platform will support the migration of traffic from traditional legacy networks to Qwest's high-speed Internet protocol network.

Qwest's network platform will be built primarily with Cisco communications equipment.

Qwest provides broadband Internet-based data, voice and image communications.

Cisco makes routers, switching equipment and software for computer networks.

Qwest Communications International Inc. and Cisco Systems Inc. agreed to co-develop applications for Internet-based data, telephone and image services, which Qwest will sell.

Cisco will help market Qwest's Internet communications services and will form an organization for developing products and services for the Qwest network.

The companies plan to focus on Internet applications, optical Internet technologies, Internet voice services and an Internet operational support system.
