Merci Ray!

Unfortunately, I can't copy and print the case studies Mr. Vining sent me. My P.C. has been possessed by the devil, and I'm getting my mail routed to another holding file, and some of the applications I have don't seem to be working properly.

So, I will ask him to re-send them to me and I'll try to get them on the tread ASAP. Sorry for the delay.

Here is some more information for you to digest <ggg>. Lon Vining (Angoss's CFO) obliged me in my request for copies of the case studies that were presented at Angoss's AGM. I was unable to attend, and after reviewing their AGM slide presentation, I felt that these examples would be appreciated by other shareholders who also could not attend.

I believe that these examples speak volumes to the potential that this company's software can provide countless organizations. I will be expanding on these thoughts in greater detail, however, I now have to take my daughter to her soccer game. I tell you that it sure is a lot of fun watching a bunch of 8 year old girls play this game. The giggles and groans are definitely something to hear.

I hope this information will show the potential of these products. It sure did for me.

Investment banking

A major international investment bank experienced significant losses and exposure on investments in derivatives with write-offs in excess of $800 million.

ANGOSS data mining technology was successfully deployed to assist in identifying and addressing risk areas, reduce exposure and improve reporting processes and procedures.

Banking

A Canadian chartered bank wished to proactively deal with mortgage defaults to reduce overall losses on its residential mortgage portfolio.

ANGOSS data mining technology was successfully deployed to identify unknown factors relevant to potential loan defaults and isolate high risk accounts with potential for default.

Retail

A UK retailer wished to address shrinkage caused by shoplifting at its retail locations.

ANGOSS data mining technology was deployed to analyze shoplifting patterns resulting in changes in floor layout within retailer's stores and significant reduction in shrinkage.

A major Canadian retailer wished to analyze its credit data to determine the adequacy of current business rules and scoring procedures.

ANGOSS data mining technology identified key issues that had not been previously considered at all in their credit application process as well as major differences in geographic exposures they were unaware of.

Process control

RR Donnelley, one of the largest publishing businesses in the United States, was concerned about downtime caused by various production problems.

ANGOSS data mining technology was used to analyze production data and isolate key factors causing production downtime -- saving hundreds of thousands of dollars in costs and promoting improvements "up the supply chain".

Credit card issuers

Eight of the top ten credit card issuers in the United States use ANGOSS data mining technology -- for everything from customer acquisition, through loyalty program management, to credit risk exposure analysis and collections analysis.

Good Evening Ray,

I recently came across this web site. It is called DM Review magazine. This is a monthly publication. It describes itself as covering data warehousing and business intelligence issues and solutions for executive and IT management. It does this through columns by top industry experts, informative and timely articles, data warehouse success stories, executive interviews, third-party product reviews and datawarehouse.com. The Palo Alto Management Group (PAMG) identifies DM Review as the #1 data warehousing publication.

They report that there are over 19,000 subscribers to their magazine. Their latest issue provides a review of Angoss's KnowledgeSTUDIO software. This review was conducted by one of Angoss's clients - Customer Analytics. This firm uses KnowledgeSTUDIO to Build and Organize Analysis Models

BACKGROUND: Customer Analytics, Inc. develops enterprise-wide customer-centric relationship management solutions. Our product suite includes an industry-specific data model, a range of predictive models and an application that allows various enterprise users to utilize the data mart to develop customer centricity throughout the enterprise.

I found what they had to say about this application both interesting and very encouraging. I strongly suggest that everyone read what they found.

PLATFORMS: Windows NT 4.0 with SP4.

PROBLEM SOLVED: Customer Analytics, Inc.'s suite incorporates easy-to-use analytics and sophisticated data mining capabilities. We embed a range of predictive models in our application, which guide the end user in focusing on the solution to their problems, rather than on the intricacies of data mining. We needed a tool that would allow our in-house analysts to develop the models using the client data and then embed the models easily within our application. The models should easily integrate in the application and be able to be updated as new data is received.

PRODUCT FUNCTIONALITY: Customer Analytics uses ANGOSS KnowledgeSTUDIO to build and score neural network, decision tree and cluster analysis models. KnowledgeSTUDIO is not only a broad data-mining tool but is also a data-mining workbench that assists us to organize the entire modeling process. KnowledgeSTUDIO has an ActiveX/COM/DCOM open architecture. No other data mining product that we tested is as programmable and open as KnowledgeSTUDIO. We can use it to rescore new data in batch mode, as well as score data in real time during application execution.

STRENGTHS: KnowledgeSTUDIO is easy to learn and very user friendly. The user interface has a look and feel comparable to the standard Office 97. Wizard-driven menus allow the user to select learning and validation data sets, perform variable selection, build, validate and profile models, and overlay lift charts from different models. The profiling capability is very powerful and interactive. With a minimum effort, we can profile a selected set of variables by model segment. In addition, charts and data tables can be copied to a spreadsheet (or PowerPoint) and vice versa with a "drag and drop." KnowledgeSTUDIO has led the industry in the use of interactive decision trees. No other product we tested was as good at using trees to interactively explore and visualize relationships in the data. The object model provides a uniform interface to all models, independent of the modeling algorithm. This allows us to change the algorithm of a particular model without impacting the client code. KnowledgeSTUDIO's multilayer perceptron neural network algorithm is quite advanced - it uses an optimized version based on back propagation that improves its performance.

WEAKNESSES: The current 2.0 version does not perform logistic regression or linear regression. ANGOSS plans to enhance KnowledgeSTUDIO with logistic regression and linear regression algorithms in version 2.1 expected later this year. These algorithms are planned to be implemented using an algorithm developers kit (ADK) which will also provide a development environment for the rapid implementation of other generally available and proprietary algorithms.

SELECTION CRITERIA: The major criteria was the embedability of the models. KnowledgeSTUDIO and KnowledgeServer provide the most open and flexible framework for building sophisticated data mining applications. The products are based on the COM architecture. The models can be manipulated using well-documented COM interfaces. In addition, the KnowledgeSTUDIO has a very intuitive interface and produces very high-quality models, making this a natural selection for us.

DELIVERABLES: We are using a variety of algorithms to generate an array of models which are integrated into our application.

VENDOR SUPPORT: ANGOSS has been very responsive to our questions. Our analysts were able to receive timely support using both telephone and e-mail.

DOCUMENTATION: The documentation is found on-line. The product includes a tutorial which exposes the user to the main features of the system, and there is extensive documentation describing the major functionality.

I can tell you that it is nice to see that this reviewer is pleased with their products. Now over 19,000 DM Direct subscribers (and potential customers) will now know just how good they are too.

Hope this helps!
