Paper Trading and Real Tradings are worlds apart. Having emotional self-control and discipline when real money is on the line is critical for trading success. That is something paper-trading doesn't help you with. Moreover on fast moving equities, paper-trading won't give a true sense of what kind of fills you would of gotten.

Carl:

Great posts on paper trading. I'll add them to the thread summary.

In addition:

I have seen this repeatedly with beginning traders. In fact, I ought to type up a list of "losers I have known," a list of the typical trading types that come in and blow through an account.

I think this would be very useful to many people. Kind of like a "Market Wizards" book in reverse. Perhaps you could call in "Characteristics of a Losing Trader"! Anyway, if you get a chance, I think a first hand description of the 'losers you have known' would be very educational.
