Here's the upside of 3dfx's rumored talks with S3. 3dfx knows they have a real winner with voodoo4, but they need to secure fab space so they can have any shot at making enough of them. So the price of S3 is worth it to get the fab space so they can own the Christmas market this year. I'll stop dreaming now...

Pure speculation: I'll bet it's diamond that's stiffing nvidia. Creative has lots of cash and 3dfx should have sold their nvidia shares they got through STB. Diamond is all but broke.

If your guess is right, I'd say that's encouraging. It's certainly better to see 3dfx taking a pro-active stance than just hoping they can meet demand for future product. I would be the least surprised if it turned out to be Diamond who are balking to repurchase NVDA stock. Just a hunch.
