OEMs are slogs

"Why that scenario hasn't happened remains a mystery to me, and probably always will. "

As stated previously, OEMs would not announce Embassy inclusion until the SKUs that included them were determined. OEMs usually require at least 6 months of rigorous testing of any new product shipped in their boxes. To the best of my knowledge, samples aren't available yet. I believe it was stated that they'd be ready 3Q 99. So IMO, we're looking 1Q 2000 before Embassy appears in your neighborhood Compaq, Dell or Gateway. I could be wrong, but from the "guidance" attained thru press-releases, e-mails, etc., this appears to be my best guess as to when we'll see them.

This doesn't count the add-on market: tuner cards, USB dongle, modems, smart card readers, etc. But, we're talking small deployment numbers here. Initially, we're not going to get millions of chips out there this way.

But IMO, the OEMs will not consider it their baby unless its on the motherboard. Then, you'll see the headlines and promotional fluff for Embassy out of them.

Interestingly, if you scan the MyPublish site (new stuff), you'll see lots of "test" SMOs that are being created for a penny. I believe this could be the start of some OEMs kicking the tires. Its probably also potential online publishers, competitors, etc as well. I'll keeping my eye on the content that shows up.
