Death of Divx:

Yet another media format that failed. This could bolster the need for a future digital VCR. Ampex's patent portfolio is filled with technology that would apply to a consumer-type, low-end digital VCR. When HDTV and larger bandwidth enables high resolution digital video, consumers will want a recordable, reusable, cost-effective, portable medium on which to store their digital video. Blockbuster would appreciate a format similar to VHS tapes for their business in movie rentals. Our familiarity with present VHS tapes may make use of a similar digital format (tape cartridge) more likely. Ampex's DCT1700d would suit me fine. Does anyone else see a future void in this consumer electronics market?
