Russian parliament rejects bill required to get IMF loan

<< Russia's Communist-dominated parliament today rejected a pivotal part of a reform bill package that the government says is needed to help get crucial foreign loans.

The legislature's lower house, the State Duma, voted 219-101 to defeat a bill that would have imposed a new tax on gas stations.

The bill is part of a package of reforms designed to meet conditions for a $4.5 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund. Moscow needs the money to pay off old debts due this year to the IMF and avoid a potentially disastrous default ... more ... >>
