IW--I share your view completely, there's nothing wrong with price prediction as long as it's backed up by some thought and analysis, and that is mostly what we have on this thread. What wears me down is when folks go:

"$200 by 2002!! Wahoo!!!!!!!!"

and that's all they say. That doesn't enlighten anyone, and just wastes our time.

The only thing that you wrote that I disagree with slightly is that the only reason why we're here is to make money--that's, at least, not true for me, as I also enjoy the sense of cameraderie with bright, intellectually-curious people. Making money isn't secondary, by any means, but there are other benefits to spending time here, as well--at least there is for me.

"Where Wall Street Meets The Web"

An early-day rally continues yesterday's run before ISDEX weakens late in trading on profit taking. Dow and NASDAQ also find some upside as Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan tells Congress that inflation may be in check but a small tightening of the money supply may keep it so.

E*TRADE (NASDAQ:EGRP - news) reports its community area now has more than 150,000 active discussion group participants. Thoughts here: a few weeks ago Merrill Lynch announced it plans on being a large Internet brokerage player. Why doesn't it simply acquire E*TRADE. Time is critical in these market.
