Hello Larry - none taken. I thought your comment was polemical, coupled with my being lack of self-awareness <g>, I didn't take any implication to heart.

To be certain, I doubt the esteemed participants on the Forum would want to deny Beijing is not perfect. Here, I think our [yours and mine] worldviews divert somewhat. Indeed, PRC is not a democratic country with full autonomy, majority and minority alike. And yes, there are still a lot of dirty laundries. That said, it has been a long journey from the age of darkness. To say the least, one does not find corpses bound and gagged floating down the Pearl River anymore [that happened in the late 60s.] Corruption has been trending down. And the very fact that her underbelly, such as torture in prison etc., can be observed by outsiders is a testamonial that she is opening up. Do I want it to happen faster? You bet! Do I want my friend [I ve never met,] Ngawang Cheophel, a Fulbright scholar and an artist, be released from one of the most notorious prisons in the TAR? I do! But I also know by venting my vemon, real or imaginary, here on this Forum, won't do any good. If I did, I could only alienate my friends here. I mean, they may be sympathetic to the plight of those who suffer injustice in China [and elsewhere.] However, if I were to form a holier than thou attitude, they might react to me by turning their back on the real issues.

Of course, this is my worldview. I think the world is still very much analog and not quite yet digital <g>, i.e., it is a gradation and not an On-or-Off thing. But I certainly cannot impose my worldview on to you

best, Bosco
