In case people didn't see this one on the Day Trading Thread

From Gerry at Stockwatch

Just a few comments about the Market Depth feed.

Market depth and stock quotes are two separate data feeds coming into Stockwatch and are sent as 2 different messages to your ticker. When I'm watching depth I usually notice that either depth or the quote may change first depending on how the applet is refreshing itself or which message arrived first.

The TSE can delay the depth message by up to 10 seconds. Our ticker servers batch messages to your applet on 5 second intervals. The absolute worst case could be a 15 second delay in the depth message. However, on top of this these messages are transmitted over the internet where realtime transmission is not guaranteed and messages may be held up if local congestion or brownouts occur. This is not normally the case.

Both messages contain correct information, but on a fast moving stock not all changes in depth may be transmitted.

We will continue to provide the best service we can. We will also look at ways to add quality of service metrics so that you could know if problems are slowing your data.

Thanks,
Gerry Rempel
