I agree with you, pretty much. When my father's wife was buried, recently, some in the family were upset because the priest would not allow one of her female cousins to act as altar girl; some priests allow it, some don't. I left the Church when I was 13 because they would not allow me to be an altar girl. But I was allowed, at the funeral, to give one of the readings from scripture. I chose Proverbs 31. I will find a link, and post it, so you will see why.
