I am not a 2nd amendment absolutist, and therefore might be willing to give the states more latitude myself. However, the 2nd amendment is in the Bill of Rights, not a "penumbra and emanation", and is therefore a bit less dubious...

Yes yes yes now you're getting it. That's exactly how the Founders set it up!

I might be willing to consider it if we extended it to all other areas too, for example, gun control.

Been done. If some Californian comes to Illinois with a gun and no firearm owners ID, jail. Same in NJ.
