Goldman's Cohen says fed move would not shake mkts

NEW YORK, June 17 (Reuters) - Goldman Sachs chief U.S. equity strategist Abby Joseph Cohen said on Thursday financial markets are likely to ''easily tolerate'' an expected modest interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve Board designed to hold back inflation.

''Such a 'flu shot' is now widely expected and would be unlikely to unsettle investors beyond a transitory period,'' Cohen, one of Wall Street's most prominent bulls, said in a strategy note after Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan signalled that the Federal would raise interest rates modestly at month's end.
