SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 17, 1999--ZF MicroSystems, a leader manufacturer of embedded systems, has been chosen by Sun Microsystems as a platform to demonstrate the power of Sun's PersonalJava(tm) technology. Sun will show its PersonalJava technology running on ZF's netDisplay, an OEM flat panel touch-screen PC, at this week's JavaOne(SM) Worldwide Java Developer Conference at San Francisco's Moscone Center.

Sun and ZF have developed an Internet screen phone running Sun's PersonalJava technology with an 8" LCD flat panel display and touch-screen. The product is not currently slated for production, but serves as an example of a fully functional internet appliance comprised of today's industry leading products geared towards this exciting new market. "The netDisplay well-suited for PersonalJava technology," said Annette Wagner, Human Interface Lead, Consumer and Embedded Platforms, Sun Microsystems, Inc. "Sun has targeted PersonalJava technology at the webcentric information appliance and ZF's product is ideal for these applications. The support we received from ZF has been tremendous," added Wagner.

ZF's netDisplay is a self-contained, networkable PC, complete with color LCD and optional touch-screen. At just 2.2 inches deep and weighing only 2 pounds, the computer is ideal for a wide range of applications such as information appliances and internet devices. The netDisplay is shipped with pre-loaded DOS and BIOS, PC-compatible I/O, LCD flat-panel, display adapter and ZF's proprietary Fail-Safe(tm) Boot ROM. With standard 10Base-T Ethernet support, the netDisplay can act as a client in most networks. Volume pricing of the netDisplay starts at $1000. "Our product frees software developers from reinventing the PC for embedded applications," said Joel Postman, director of marketing for ZF MicroSystems. "Sun's PersonalJava technology and ZF's netDisplay offer a very attractive platform for getting Internet appliances and other Internet-aware embedded systems to market quickly and effectively."
