As I said - IMO you do not need a pure gold standard to have gold as a hedge. Gold is still viewed by many as the ultimate form of safety in a meltdown.

Infusing liquidity in a failing system may delay the inevitable, but in the end the equilibrium will be reinstated. Inflation will occur eventually. The only thing that is preventing it now, is the horrible economic state of the rest of the world. A pure gold standard just reinstates the disequilibrium quicker ..... in the end, IMO it will happen. And IMO paper will not help you.
