Coppermine
I think the effect will be slight. The highest speed Rambus is not plentiful, which is why the 600Mhz Rambus is being touted. This is a good speed for existing 500 and 550 Mhz processors. When Coppermine is released a few months later there should be a bit better supply of the higher speeds. It could actually be detrimental to the OEMs who will supply the machines if the demand cannot be met, so I think the delay gives a breather to the OEM boxmakers but does not delay the excitement of Rambus in general. I think there was a hope that a quantum leap in performance could be achieved so that early adopters and power users would have their socks knocked off and just have to get a new machine. This may give some pause to wait for Coppermine, but the wait won't be long.
