Maybe the best answer is a "boycott Datek" campaign. Post all your friends, all your threads (but don't spam!) to write to Datek (anybody have an email address for them?) saying that we will not use their service as long as the ad remains on SI. The best way to get it to go away is to make it counter productive.

I can't touch SI financially -- I paid my lifetime membership (unless I want to demand a refund, and I don't; I like SI, I want to stay, but without advertising as promised!). But maybe we can make Datek think it's losing more than it's gaining by this.

Power to the Members! (God, I loved the 60s!!)

My psychic vision...

Russ etc sitting around, beforehand, saying, (like the Chinese government)(unwarranted comparison, low blow), we can do this, just hunker down and let the howls subside.

Ooh, and a fallback: make it a really obnoxious color, then give that up but keep the concept. See, we listen.

And we can always come on thread, after a while, and say, Hey, it's a small thing, it doesn't really violate what we said to you before, and it brings in money so we can do real cool important things for you. It's not a huge deal.

Tom
(But a little voice in my head keeps saying, This wouldn't have happened in Kansas, Toto.)
