For Immediate Release Corel Corporation Releases Preliminary Financial Results For Second Quarter 1999 Company's detailed financial release on schedule for June 21, 1999 Ottawa, Canada— June 18, 1999 — Corel Corporation (NASDAQ: COSFF, TSE: COS) today announced that it expects to report revenue for its second quarter ending May 31, 1999 of $70.5 million and fully diluted earnings of $0.14 per share. All amounts are expressed in U.S. currency. This compares to revenue of $63 million and a loss of ($0.14) per share in the same quarter last year. “We are undertaking this pre-release in recognition of what appears to be recent speculative trading in our shares both on NASDAQ and on the TSE,” said Michael O'Reilly, Corel's executive vice president finance and CFO. “Accordingly, we believe it is appropriate in the circumstances to release the best information we can at this time.” The preliminary revenue and earnings figures in this release are estimates and may change upon completion of the closing cycle for the quarter. Final results for the quarter are scheduled to be released on June 21, 1999. Company officials will not be commenting further until that time, when additional financial details will be provided. This press release may contain certain statements that are forward looking as that term is defined by the US Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995. These statements are based on current expectations that are subject to risks and uncertainties. Actual results will differ due to factors such as customer demand, product ship schedules, PC shipment growth, product mix, competitive products and pricing, technological shifts and other issues discussed in the company's Report on Form 10-K.
