< Now that AOL is on the way up, the broadband issue seems to have died down. Natural death I guess.>

It looks like we have a temporary reprieve, but I certainly don't think it's a dead issue. I think the market got overly fixated on instant answers. The infrastructure doesn't yet exist to make broadband an option in many areas of the U.S. (and the rest of the world). I still don't think it's a question of one winning technology. It's a big enough pie to share. I also don't believe 56K travel through cyperspace is the way to go either. As a city dweller, I've been hooked up to @home for more than a year. There is a BIG difference. I'm anxious to see how DSL performs, and how well it markets. Wireless connections on the horizon are also of great interest, and it'll be interesting to see what rolls out in that arena. I'm expecting deals and alliances to continue at a brisk pace in the telecom and internet sectors. I'm also hoping that AOL will delineate a broadband strategy soon, as I think that it's still a necessary element for the #1 player.
