acephalic -- lacking a clearly defined head (from Gr. akephalos)

This body was missing all it's head, not merely the brain. The poor father thought it must have been his fault. He was ignorant of reproductive science. Today they would have had an ultrasound, and a mid-term or late-term abortion. I hope. His shame and terror haunted me for years. The other guy was suicidal and I suspect permanently disturbed. I felt ashamed for being so lucky. My kid was covered with bruises and scabs and had his head pulled out of shape by obstetrical pliers. My wife thought the headless child had had its head pulled off by similar pliers and was terrified in her delivery. Dr. Mayo son of clinic fame.
