We lived in faculty housing in Urbana, Illinois. My oldest son (age 5 or so) annoyed the children next door by questioning the existence of God. They were furious because their parents told them God was their boss. So they beat him up. The parents were very nice and had hundreds of tarantulas to everyone's amusement. He became an evangelizing atheist -- the most convinced I've ever known and scored many conversions, especially among faculty kids. He is also the most thorough questioner of authority I know. The other tended to hang with atheistic groups. Played basketball against church-based clubs. Always ended in fights when the cursing started. The atheists were outclassed. The church kids used mufugger etc. while the atheist used God damn etc.
