Hi Gary. Long time......

May I ask to what written commitment you refer? If it's....

We will not bombard you with banner advertising or other forms of solicitation. Specifically, banner ads will not be placed in the message boards for members

.... then would you not agree that there is ambiguity with the qualifier "bombard" as it pertains to "other forms of solicitation", especially since there is specificity with regard handing of banners ads?

The Pig in the Living Room.

Re: That the color of the solicitation is unobtrusive does not change the fact that the commitment not to place any "form of solicitation" has been breached.

A pig in the living room, even if tastefully-dressed, is still a pig in the living room. And once allowed in, it establishes that yes, pigs do indeed belong in the living room.

SI has successfully deflected one potential human-interest PR disaster (Website Members in Uproar over Green Slime). I hope it and Datek will act to avert another, (Website Founders Join Conglomerate, Lose Soul, say Members).

I'm trying to see it from the other side: "SI has members who are interested in trading stocks; Datek has a method of trading stocks; let's synergize." And I realize that there is probably a signed contract now that allows the pig into the living room.

So, with a nod to my wife (are you just bitching again, or actually suggesting something positive?), let me humbly suggest that SI and Datek put their heads together today and somehow manage to become the good guys in this story (we listen, care and respond): Build a disabler, for oldie members at least, [Per Brad: "We will not bombard you...(If we do, you will have the ability to turn them off)."]; get Brad off the hook; build your goodwill rather dissipate it; and keep the bulk your synergy.

Best wishes,
Tom
