I am fortunate, there is an unusually large Greek community in Annapolis, enough for a Hellenic center and a sizable parish, so one can get good down home greek food without a lot of trouble, although the best place is way across town, and inappropriate for special occasions. The Indian restaurant we used to go to, in the historic district, burned to the ground last year, and has not been replaced. I like Indian food, but there is a degree of uncertainty about what one will get, even if one has ordered it before, that I find disconcerting, since each cook seems to feel different about appropriate spiciness. The closest Middle Eastern restaurant is Afghan, and all they have things like hummus, but with some kind of crazed use of pepper sauce and mint, so it is dangerous to go. If you can stand the burn, the underlying flavors are good. Hence, Mama Ayesha's is my main Middle Eastern restaurant...
