If that story is true(I don't like the way they say "sources"), it is an extremely bullish story for AOL. I consider Europe their Achiles heel.

Vendit,
Interesting article, mostly conjecture as usual with Kevin Prigel's stuff, but interesting nonetheless. He suggests it's not free AOL but flatrate AOL. If he had included numbers--how much AOL plans to charge as a flat rate in Europe (the same $16.50/mo they charge in Britain?) and how much the local telcos kickback per minute--we could figure out if this strategy would work. From AOL's point of view, it is obviously better to use a flat rate strategy and hold people on line for ecommerce purposes rather than have people constantly thinking about the ticking meter.
Best,
--Steve

Vendit, do you know who Kevin Prigel is? Obviously, if this is correct, AOL will do extremely well in Euroland. They need some exclusive agreements with DuestchTelecom, France Telecom, Telecom Italia, and a couple in the UK since these five control over 65% of the telco population there, and they're moving.
