The US did not "shoot many of our unarmed students". The reason that Kent State was a shock was that it was singular and out of character. Investigation showed that noises occurred that caused some of the young National Guard troops to think that they were being fired on, and panic. Even so, only four students were killed. Let us not start to go overboard here...

Kent State was a tragedy, no doubt. But to compare that to sending in tanks to mow down thousands of demonstrators is a bit of a stretch, you must admit goldsnow. It is also not US policy to "detain" political dissidents and put them in indefinite solitary confinement or forced labor camps...
