Gary, I guess the making money and increasing shareholder wealth is what i define as a clear corporate vision from an investor's point of view. I guess others can provide input on whether they have "clear vision" in the future of technology.

I would think that "greed" and "vision" would converge down the road anyways although i could be wrong.

Gary open your eyes . Microsoft has vision all you have to do is look at their"strategic investments" to see it.Back a few post some one had a quote about MSFT a" marketing company " Its every ware you look these days. Part of having vision is noticing when the other guys are on to something and having the flexibility to help them make it better and add it to your business plan.

I disagree a bit with both of you.

I do think Microsoft has a vision: give the customers what they think they want. Suggest what they should want next. If they want someone else's idea, copy it with a little more glitz and a nicer interface.

However, nowhere in their vision is any use for 'innovation'. 'Innovation' implies that the idea is brand new. I challenge anyone to name the MS developments that MS did not copy from a competitor, or buy from a soon-to-be competitor. And they do not dictate the great ideas, just their implementations.

Microsoft is successful because they implement very efficiently in two senses: First, they make sure that anything that is in the user's face is slick. Everything else can wait. Second, they churn out products at a fair clip.

We work with a lot of platforms, and while some developers know that other OS'es may be better from a technical standpoint, MS's development environment makes programming a whole lot easier.
