RE: My interest is in the potential of LEDs to
eventually replace incandescent and fluorescent
lighting as the LEDs are more efficient and have
life of about 100,000 hours !

Any interest out there?

Yes!
Actually, an old friend is heading the HWP/Phillips division to bring these to fruition and another friend does much of the Labs work on efficient emitters. Not sure I can add much. It is already a big deal in street traffic lights and truck warning lights... I think HWP was growing their III-V material but we were looking at taking internal LED designs and farming them out to Asia for fab to lower costs when I was there (Left 7 months ago - semi retired). HWP is pretty diversified... 8)

Thanks, I'll check out EMKR & AXTI. Did some book research into GaAs
about 15 years ago. How do they handle the low melting point? Per-
haps the doping increases it to a usable level. Time for more reading!
Thanks again.
