June 18, 1999 05:44 PM
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is a statement by Milo Medin, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Excite@Home:
Excite@Home ATHM applauds the Information Technology Agency staff's decision to encourage the deployment of broadband networks through a "hands off" approach. We share the staff's view that consumers will be best served by the deployment of multiple broadband networks as quickly and as widely as possible.

As FCC Chairman Kennard, the City of Seattle, and a number of Silicon Valley companies have noted, true competition and consumer benefit will be maximized through a "hands off" approach that trusts markets to determine how the emerging broadband networks will be built and utilized.

The Information Technology Agency staff has invested a great deal of time and energy to understand the issues and has come to the right decision. Their recommendations will encourage greater investment and competition among providers that will stimulate true consumer choice and deliver advanced broadband services that are fast, affordable, and open to all content providers on the Internet.
