Further thoughts on Athlon: AMD has said in the past that K7 will be a family when fully developed and there should be versions for desktop, mobile, workstation and server.

It does make sense for AMD to brand K7 for different segments.

The negative reaction, at least, from my standpoint, is to assume Athlon will completely replace K7.

How about if AMD use K7 together with Athlon such as AMD K7-ATHLON for the desktop performance market brand when introduced?

If that's the case, the negative reaction to Athlon alone would be greatly dimished, at least for me.

K6, K6-2, K6-2P, K6-III and K6-IIIP, these pattern do suggest that K7 alone would not make it.
