Cisco Systems to help upgrade Reuters networks

PALO ALTO, Calif., June 18 (Reuters) - Cisco Systems Inc., the largest maker of
computer-networking equipment, said on Friday that Reuters Group Plc, the largest provider
of financial news and information, would use Cisco gear to upgrade its networks.

Specifically, Reuters (quote from Yahoo! UK & Ireland: RTR.L) said it planned to use Cisco
routers and other networking gear across all its networks using Internet Protocol -- or IP -- technology. IP is essentially the
lingua franca of the Internet.

''Internet technology has created significant market opportunities for Reuters,'' said David Ure, Reuters executive director, in a
statement.

London-based Reuters said using San Jose, Calif.-based Cisco's (Nasdaq:CSCO - news) products would speed its use of
Internet technologies and cut the cost of running its current network.

Reuters has built one of the largest data networks in the world, enabling customers, such as traders and other investment
professionals, to buy and sell securities, trade currencies and the like.

''Further investing in networking and the Internet is a positive step for Reuters, and is the result of the explosive growth in the
number of Web-based applications in the financial arena,'' said John Chambers, Cisco president and chief executive, in a
statement.

Cisco shares closed $2 higher at $119.375, while American Depositary Receipts of Reuters finished down 31 cents at $83.13,
both on the Nasdaq.
