Excuse me, I am part American Indian and we were here first. You whites stole our land and now you want to shove your white religion down our throats? No way, Kimosabe.

Many of the Founding Fathers were Deists, not Christians. Jefferson, Franklin. Some were Universalists. Some were Quakers. Some were Catholics. Some were Episcopalians. After all the trouble you Protestants caused, now you want to say that all of the contentious sects of Christianity are one religion? Gimme a break. The Southern Baptist Conference says that Catholics aren't saved.

Not even to mention Jews.

America was founded as a Christian nation.

Michael, where in The Declaration of the Independence, or in the U.S. Constitution, is there any mention of Christianity, as such?

Jefferson, the author of the former, was a Deist, and the same was true of some (I don't know how many) of the signers of the latter.

It is certainly true that the overwhelming majority of the citizens of this country, when it was founded, were Christian. So? A lot of them were slaveowners as well.

Some parts of our "cultural heritage" are more to be prized than others, in my opinion. And I personally would regard the principle of tolerance, which would, of course, include religious tolerance, as perhaps the most valuable. Hence I would object to any effort to exalt any one religion at the expense of other beliefs (or non-beliefs).

Some founders were Norsemen and they still paid homage to Thor. Shall we post the rules to attain Valhalla throughout all public schools?

Why not the Dali Lama's writings on attaining Nirvana?

Or Ayn Rand's basis for Objectivist philosophy, morals and ethics?

Hurry up and answer now... a PC society needs to know! Hurry now. Be quick!

Lordy, Lordy, look who's here! I thought you didn't like the Feelings thread, Michael. What brings you over?
