This program is cool... I've been using it for a couple of days so far, Plus it's free if you don't mind a small banner in the corner of your browser. Bannerless = $20.00 registration. (IE 4.01 and up only)

Re: Web Accelerators

Touchy topic Wayne.

There's many people that are big fans of such products...And to be honest with you...I'm not one of them.

There's a variety of different ones out there as well. Some that claim to 'tweak' your Dial-up networking properties to give you optimum transfer rates, and others that work with the cache to locally store large graphics to speed up browsing.

The one you mentioned does sound interesting. Especially the part about filtering out pop-up windows and other annoying advertisements. Is it worth checking out...absolutely. To be honest with you though, I would be wary of many of these products.

And I've installed and setup at least 6 different 'web accelerators' on a variety of different systems....some with no improvement...some that actually degraded the connection speed...others that were so cumbersome and difficult to manage that it wasn't worth the hassle if it gained you an extra 10-20% (supposedly) in speed.

That said, I'm sure there are some effective programs out there. And the market for them will only get bigger as the web gets more and more cluttered with banner adds, pop-up windows and sites that have massive applets and images that need loading.

<end of rant>

Cheers,

Rich
