I think I have posted before that when I took a graduate level class in Louisiana history at Tulane, the professor (head of the history department) lectured us on the first slave uprising in America, which took place on a plantation owned by people with my last name. In light of the fact that it's quite an unusual name, I suppose it was relative of mine, especially as it took place in the parish my family comes from.

The rebellious slaves were crucified on crosses positioned along the banks of the Mississippi River, for miles. 50 is the number that comes to mind, miles, not human beings.

The slavery codes had to do with the treatment of slaves, they were remedial in nature.

You might want to look in the property codes, under "moveables."
