You better run! What drivel! I believe that people should pray in their closets, discover what gods they can alone, and leave me and everyone else alone. Religious fantasy has nothing good to say to government. If Christians were sincere and honest they would concentrate on loving their neighbors as Jesus said -- i.e. people fallen among thieves. Bind up their wounds, shelter them, pay for their care. They wouldn't let the poor and sick people starve and suffer. They wouldn't fill the prisons with people who need rehabilitation and love to learn to live well. They wouldn't exclude the world's suffering poor from our country.

On the propaganda of compassion:

9:22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.

18:32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:
18:33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?

Mark 1:41 And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.

that's just a few examples. The gospels are full of examples of, and entreaties for, compassion. I find it perplexing that G. Bush is downed from some corners for partly defining himself with the ideal of compassion.

Unfortunately Conservative Christians wish to replace one sinister power (the State) with their OWN sinister power. This problem has to be looked at as "better the Devil I know..." While the State may be bad, conservative Christians would certainly be worse. Look at any country where religious zealots rule and you will see the results brought by the type of governance you seek.
