I've been very reflective tonight after reading LindyBill's post, and I can't tell you how good your kind words made me feel. This thread is very special to me; my small efforts in setting it up have been repaid a thousand fold through investment selection, sage advice, and good fellowship I've received from a great group of threadmates. Bill and I ran into each others posts on the Cisco, AOL, and Microsoft threads in September or October of last year. We quickly noticed that our approach to investing was similar. In fact, the major differences between our portfolios were the allocations we applied to our picks. We used to compare percentage gains via PM about once a month (I never came close to beating him) and discuss each of our stocks. Since we both were students of the GG, we communicated within the framework of the game, which helped us crystalize our strategies. The thread was a natural extension of those conversations, but our understanding of the GG improved dramatically when Mike Buckley dropped in and decided to stay. He is definitely the Professor of the thread, an expert valuation junkie but a so-so raconteur <g>. Making the thread self sustaining was the challenge as most of them seem to die within the first few weeks, like baby turtles. I invited friends and guest posters, and in an effort to create a dialog, made 31 of the first hundred posts. But Bill, Mike, and I were quickly joined by the likes of Lucius M. Lamar (#32), DownSouth (#33), Teflon (#50), and JRH (#97) who have become pillars of the thread. Today we have dozens of regulars, some very vocal (like me) but many more who prefer a low profile until the conversation touches their area of expertise. And there are more lurkers than you'd imagine based on the number of PMs I've received from people who feel they have prospered from some of our discussions. G&K is a self sustaining community now, and its collective wisdom is being used by all to great financial advantage. But imo its most endearing characteristics are openness to new ideas, and good nature in debate. It's not flame proof, but it's close. LindyBill, youda man and G&K, youda thread. I'm happy to hang out with you. Frank
