I disagree. Many threads include regular posters, some of whom have posted for years together now. It's called Community, one of Steve Harmon's 5 C's. It's why SI is such a terrific website, and a main reason I'm so bullish on GNET. The Amazon thread comes first to my mind as an example of such Community. I'm sure there are many others.

As for rlevy's "high school" comment, yes, that is the downside of Community. It often emerges when a group of folks hang out together. People frequent these threads for various reasons - information, friendship, spam, etc. One can find whatever one wants on these forums.

What goes around comes around, I guess.
