Sophistical. Any projectile with a core harder than antimonied lead is armor piercing -- spent uranium, steel, carbide, what you will. If you guys are target shooters, what need you projectiles with hardened cores.

Gee, nihil had a nice scientific answer to the "armor-piercing bullet" question, so I will go with that one. When the police say that they are outgunned by armor-piercing bullets, I would also respect their arguments.

And in my mind, "assault weapons" are rapid-firing guns meant to take out a whole bunch of people at a time. Is there a really rational reason that people who want to protect their home, or hunt, NEED weapons like this? Is it the same reason they need to be able to buy more than one gun a month? Is it because the NRA says so?
