This is the far and away the best discussion on the DSL/Cable - AOL/ATHM I have seen posted on SI yet.

There is no agenda in the post and it very insightful.

Ed, re:<< LOS ANGELES, June 18 (Reuters) - A long-awaited study by a city agency Friday urged Los Angeles officials to deny Internet providers space on cable TV systems in what is rapidly becoming a contest for access to U.S. homes.>> Did the study say why they recommended to deny access to IP's? I would have thought they would have recommended to provide access.

<< AOL says "I'll have high speed this summer"(around the corner) and

Ed, I am curious about something. Is it possible for AOL to roll out DSL service on their own, or are they dependent on the local phone companies, whose lines they have access to, to deploy the necessary central offices and/or other communications build-up on which DSL is totally dependent, before AOL could offer their own customers DSL service? Wondering....

More about DSL in a later post....
