JM,
A good thing to try and remember in this business is not to generalize. Every analyst is different. I saw a major stockbroker just initiated trading in a big name internet stock only a month or so ago. You can be sure that when there are enough investors interested in Ampex, the analysts will come. You could probably figure that “enough investors” roughly equates to the number of subscribers it takes to support a magazine…a few hundred thousand at the least. I doubt that there are more than a thousand individual investors in Ampex at this time. Or you could figure that a major brokerage will initiate coverage when it can see an opportunity to make money promoting it to an investor base (it's own and those of it's associates). I can't see Ampex at this time qualifying for any kind of rating by any major brokerage, by their standards this one is off the charts risk-wise and too low priced for them to make the big bucks (except, of course, for themselves).
