ARGUING implies that both parties will at least scan the arguments of the other, and attempt to respond to them. When that happens--and for the most part it does at Feelings--then the debate can be interesting.

FIGHTING, on the other hand, is often the result when someone posts who is only interested in expressing a particular ideological position, and not in actually discussing anything rationally, sharing information, etc.

People who don't even bother to respond to logical arguments but just blunder ahead spouting exactly the same arguments they can no longer defend, often cause the mood to shift quickly from arguing to fighting, in my opinion.
