gEc -

I have around 30 biotech and pharmas. Very few of the biotechs have done well the last few years, but one of the lessons I've learned is to never dump all of your shares of a promising company. Companies like Medimmune, Biovail, and even ICN, CNTO, QLTI have brought good rewards though I had sold off some or most when I lost patience. Immunex and Sepracor (of which I now have only small positions) have shown me how difficult it is to get back on board once a drug is approved.

BTGC is getting slammed now by lots of impatient folks - and I, too, felt that things should have progressed better by now. But I also feel that within a few years, the company be up in the 40's or more - based upon the HGH in US, the Hep-B, the wound healing applications for Oxandrin, the good potential for Oxsodrol, and Androtab-sl. They have other things cooking as well, and once the train starts, the momentum will be strong. But waiting is frustrating when one sees other stocks making dramatic moves now. I'm playing it safe, though, and am holding on to the majority of my shares.

I think it pays to speculate a small percentage in the biotechs while maintaining a good position in the pharmas. I had done the opposite years ago and regret it. I learned that even good science does not pay for the testing, and the pharmas ended up with the profits of most of the biotechs. I lost with Cytogen, Cortex, and a number of others.

Will finish this later - time for a soccer game...

Just another example - I carry about 40 stock and option positions with a structure unlikely to be matched by any fund anywhere, and I am beating the averages by a large margin and most of the funds except for some Internet and Asia funds. It does take a lot of time.

BTGC is a position I will probably drop after buying in the 7's. Short-term doesn't sound too appealing if I can buy it for 5 later.

I also have BINC, IMCL and BXM but I am not a biotech expert. Those were all picks from others I know who are generally good. The first two are up nicely since I bought in.

Good luck.
