Frank, I am constantly amazed by your depth of understanding of the issues that are core to the merger debate that ensues between the players, investors, and all concerned. From your current comments, I gather that the FRO/GBLX merger is the one us investors should light candles for; if so, I agree. I personally have a USWest voodoo doll.....pins poised. I'm baffled by Nacchio's lust for this property unless its just to foil...even so, it still begs the question: why? Just one other question. Do you see some of the latter gen. CLECs ( NOPT, ITCD, ESPI, e.g ) as survivors, even victors in this telcom. soup that's simmering? Or do you perceive too many overlaps with the likes of the Level 3's and QWSTs? L

Frank, I really hate to denigrate your multi-level analysis with this pedestrian layman's viewpoint, but maybe it will add some color. I recently tried to get DSL service from USWest installed at a small satellite office of ours in Denver. The level of incompetency I encountered recalled only one thing in my prior experience: the Army. [We still don't have the DSL and I've completely given up on even trying, at least through U.S. West, to get it] Why QWST or GBLX would take the risk of adding that profound dead weight to their operations is beyond me. Frankly, I was on the verge of buying QWST/GBLX when all this came up. FWIW, I will now buy whichever FAILS to acquire USWest. I don't care what the rationale is: nothing could be worth that outfit. best, mike doyle
