There is a ton of info on DSL and various technologies on the "Last Mile" thread here. Most of this stuff is extremely technical, thus I do not understand it. These companies are all mentioned. This thread is geared to the last mile, so they focus on any broadband. There is also a broadband thread. My impression is that some of this stuff is several years away, the winner not having been decided. AWRE is also a player. NT is working on electric wires, but did sign an agreement with ATT for switches. TNXT is on my watch list, as is WCII and NPNT.

Me Inc,

Covad is a service provider of DSL; that is, they obtain collocations in ILEC central offices and install DSL for customers. Their DSL competitors are the Bell Companies (ILECs), Rhythms, Northpoint, and a whole bunch of mom-and-pop DSL providers. And, further down the road, AT&T, WorldCom, AOL, and the cable companies will be competitors for the last mile. Pairgain is an equipment manufacturer. They sell the equipment that companies like Covad use (although I'm not sure which equipment Covad currently buys). Other DSL equipment manufacturers are Cisco, Coppermountain, Alcatel, Tut Systems, et al. Hope that helps.

Doughboy.
