so its my hope that the first thing they work on here at SI with all their new found money is speeding up things much faster SI is actually a quick site. It's designed without graphics which is one of the tricks used to speed up a page. (The chart below each message will slow down a page somewhat -- especially with Navigator -- but it seems worth it.) They use (and probably pay a premium for) a backbone ISP that claims to provide quicker-than-normal connections. (http://www.pnap.com) I've been running some monitoring software on my DSL system for a few days that tells me about connection speeds and so on. It tells me that the average speed for an SI page is about 128 kpbs. The best retrieval speed is over 350 kbps. The average delay on a page is less than .5 seconds and worst delay is just over 3 seconds. (Except, of course for those too-frequent server burps when a page isn't available at all.) But, of course, none of that means you see such speeds, but it's at least an example of the speed that the site can deliver. If you're really concerned about speed, you might consider downloading a sample of the monitoring software that could allow your ISP (if they care) or SI to detect where the problem lies. <did notice you frequent the mda thread...have you found that useful?> Very. The tenor tends toward bearish, but by no means exclusively. That is actually one of the reasons I read it, as a way to balance my inate bullishness. There are some top notch posters there. PM me if you want some names. As far as speed, has dsl or cable access arrived in your area? I have neither yet, but someone in my city does and says it solves most of the speed problems you mention. (Not trying to get SI off the hook, but rather satisfy your speed objectives.)
