How do I change my alias/login ID/password?

Login ID's on Silicon Investor cannot be changed. However, if you'd like to change your alias (the name that shows when you post) or your password, please send a request to webmistress@techstocks.com

How do I find a specific discussion forum?

There are a few ways you can find a specific subject. We have cross-referenced most charts, corporate profiles and forums, so you'll see corresponding discussion forums listed on any particular chart and/or profile. You can also use the search engine (on the member home page) to search for a particular word or ticker symbol, by thread title, full-text and posts with links, and, of course, you can always peruse the Stock Talk subjects by category (Misc, Software, Communications, Biotechnology, etc.)

How do I start my own (new) discussion forum?

To start a new discussion forum, log into Silicon Investor, find the category that best fits your topic (Misc, Software, Communications, Biotechnology, etc.), scroll to the bottom of the page and choose the "create a subject" link. Note that if you choose the "Misc." category, you must also choose a subcategory (Five Dollars and Under, Initial Public Offerings, etc.)

Why can I no longer find a particular forum?

If a discussion forum is not posted to in a 7-day period, it is "archived." Archived forums can still be found using the search engine and can be "revived" if posted to again.

How do I post a message?

All posts on our site are responses to an existing post (if you click on any post, you'll see a "respond" link located next to it). If you do not have a specific post you'd like to respond to, or if you'd just like to post a general question or comment, you can choose the most recent post on any particular thread and respond to it.

How do I make my post text bold/italic/hyperlinked?

The only HTML tags that we allow in the discussion forums are bold and italic. To bold or italicize your text, just add the following tags to your text:

your text here for bold

your text here for italic

To add a hyperlink (URL) to another site in your post, just type the URL with http:// preceding it, and it will automatically show up as a hyperlink in your post.

Example: techstocks.com

How do I make changes to my personal profile or change my email address/keep my email address private?

Changes to your personal profile or email address can be made by accessing "Preferences" when you first log on to Silicon Investor. You will also see an option in "Preferences" to keep your email address private.

Your Preferences Pages Options Profile

How do I find someone else's email address or personal profile?

If you are a member of Silicon Investor and logged on, the names of post authors will be hyperlinked. If you click on their name, it will take you to their profile, which may or may not contain their email address (depending on their preference). If you would like to write to someone without posting, see "How do I utilize/send private messages?" (below).

How do I utilize/send private messages?

Since its not convenient for everyone to list their email address in their personal profile, you can always send someone a private message, as opposed to posting publicly to them on the site. To send a private message, just click on someone's name in a post (which will take you to their profile), and then choose the "send a private message" option. You can check your own private messages by going to "messages" when you log on to Silicon Investor.

How do I utilize SubjectMarks or PeopleMarks?

SubjectMarks and PeopleMarks are features we've implemented to help you keep track of your favorite subjects and Silicon Investor users. If you would like to bookmark a discussion forum, just scroll to the bottom of the forum and choose the "bookmark this subject" link. To bookmark a specific person, click on their name in a posted message (which will take you to their personal profile) and click on the "bookmark this person" link.

What do the red, white and blue represent on the stock charts, and what is the yellow line?

The red color you see on the stock charts represents the difference between the day's high and the day's closing price. The white represents the difference between the day's low and the day's closing, and the blue bars represent trading volume. The yellow line is the relative NASDAQ composite.

How do I add Canadian stocks, Mutual Funds or Options to my portfolio?

nadian markets are all prefaced by a one character exchange code followed by a period then the normal symbol. The codes are

V. Vancouver Stock Exchange
M. Montreal Stock Exchange
T. Toronto Stock Exchange
C. Alberta Stock Exchange

Many Canadian symbols have the suffix .A or .B appended to them to designate class A or class B issues. For example: Bombardier Class B on the Toronto exchange is 'T.BBD.B'.

Warrants have the code '.WT' appended to the end.

Rights have the code '.RT' appended to the end.

Units have the code '.UN' appended to the end.

Silicon Investor does not carry data for mutual funds or options at this time.

Why does a certain forum say that the latest message is more current than what I can see?

This is due to your browser cache. When you go to the forum and hit "page reload" on your browser, the new messages will show up.

What do I do if I have a complaint about another poster or see someone violating the Terms of Use?

If you have any complaints about Terms of Use violations, please send a specific complaint (including the thread title and post # or URL and the poster's name) to webmistress@techstocks.com.
