Steve, I was just about to post that "your way" could be costing you short term taxes where you were entitled to the long term tax rate; so yeah, I think you got it right. Near is I can tell, that's the only real difference. But whew, the constructive sale, conversion transaction and straddle stuff in that pub gives me a headache. I think maybe I'll just avoid all of those so I don't have to deal with it. I guess I can understand the intent. If you're short and long equivalent positions then you have "no" risk, ergo... Alski P.S. Do you suppose the IRS could collect some extra revenue by marketing Pub 550 as a treatment for insomnia? <GG> "Enjoy" it.
